Why Hunter Douglas
You are paying for engineering, not a label.
Most window treatment brands buy similar components and assemble them well or badly. Hunter Douglas is the exception worth knowing about: several of their products are patented systems nobody else is allowed to make. Silhouette suspends fabric vanes between two sheers, so the glare comes in as diffused light and you keep the view out. Duette Architella puts a cell inside a cell. Luminette does for a wide slider what nothing else really does.
That is the honest case for the premium. You are not paying extra for the same roller shade in a nicer box — you are paying for a mechanism that has no equivalent. Where there is an equivalent, we will say so, because we also carry Graber, Norman and Alta and we would rather you spent the difference on the rooms that need it.

What Hunter Douglas is actually known for.
Their catalog is enormous. These are the parts of it people come to us asking for by name.
- Sheers & shadingsSilhouette and Pirouette — fabric vanes floating between sheer facings. They turn hard afternoon sun into something you can sit in without closing the room off. This is the product that sells itself the moment you see it working on a real window, and the one that photographs worst.
- CellularDuette, including the cell-within-a-cell Architella construction. The insulating shade, and the one worth the premium in an older house where the glass is the coldest surface in the room. On modern double glazing the gain is real but smaller — we will tell you which you have.
- Wide openings & slidersLuminette for a slider or a wall of glass. Sliding doors are the opening people give up on, usually because a vertical blind was the only thing anyone offered them. This is the honest answer to that problem and there is not a close second.
- Woven woods & romansProvenance woven wood and Vignette romans, for rooms where the texture is doing as much work as the light control. Natural materials vary between production runs, which is exactly why you want the sample in the room rather than on a screen.
- ShuttersPalm Beach, NewStyle and Heritance — polysatin, composite and hardwood respectively. Polysatin is the one to know about for bathrooms, kitchens and anywhere with real humidity: it will not warp, swell or shed its finish.
- PowerView motorizationBattery or hardwired, scheduled or voice-controlled, and it integrates with the major smart home assistants. Worth it on anything you cannot comfortably reach — stairwells, two-story great rooms, a bank of windows behind furniture. We will confirm what your setup needs at the measure.
Straight answer
When it is worth it, and when it is not.
It is worth it when the product has no equivalent — a slider that needs Luminette, a west-facing room that needs Silhouette, a cold single-glazed sash that needs Duette. In those cases the alternative is not a cheaper version of the same thing, it is a different and worse solution to the problem.
It is not automatically worth it on a small north-facing bedroom window, a room you barely use, or anywhere a straightforward cellular or roller shade does the job completely. We carry other lines precisely so that we are not obliged to put the expensive answer on every opening. A good quote usually has more than one brand on it.

Are you an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer?
Yes. We carry the line and we have the sample books, which matters more than it sounds — the fabrics are the part you cannot judge from a website, and the books come to your house rather than you driving to a showroom to see them under someone else's lighting.
Is Hunter Douglas worth it over Graber or Norman?
Sometimes clearly yes, sometimes clearly no, and we will tell you which. Where Hunter Douglas makes something nobody else can — Silhouette, Luminette, Architella — there is no real comparison to draw. Where the products genuinely overlap, the other lines are excellent and cost less. We carry all of them, so we have no reason to push you either way.
Can I see the fabrics before I decide?
That is the point of the visit. We bring the books to your home and hold the samples against the actual window, in the actual light, at the time of day you are usually in that room. Sheers and woven woods in particular look like a different product in a showroom than they do on your glass.
Who installs it?
